News That Matters To GurdonPublished Wednesday, April 26, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesThere will be an auction Saturday, April 29, at 11:00 a.m. It will be held on the parking lot of Thomason's Big Star in Gurdon. The sale will Gurdon Band Boosters and Gurdon Rotary Club. The proceeds will go to fund band camp for several students. To further help the program, you can eat a hamburger, chips and drink for only $3. A fish fry will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Second and East Walnut Street, Thursday, April 27, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Adults meals are $6 each and children (6-12) can eat for $3.50. Children under 6 eat for free. Take-outs will be available. National Park Medical Center provides blood sugar screening and blood pressure checks at the Gurdon Senior Adult Center on the second Thursday of each Month. The annual meeting of the Okolona Cemetery Association will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the cemetery. All interested persons are invited to attend. Spaces are still available for the Extension Homemakers flea market on Saturday, May 6. The flea market will be at the Clark County Fairgrounds on Highway 67 in Arkadelphia. Individuals or groups who have used or new items, crafts or antiques, etc., for sale may rent a covered 8'x8' space for $15 or an outdoor space for $10. You may go by the Clark County Extension office at 501 Clay Street in Arkadelphia to reserve your space. David Goodson of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers of fall seeded crops, such as oats and wheat, the final date to report planted acres of these crops to the FSA office is May 15. Failure to report these acres could result in loss of benefits. Call 246-9816, extension 2, or come by 1030 Village Drive in Arkadelphia to make a report. Fred C. Gragg SuperTree Nursery has achieved STAR Status in OSHA's voluntary protection program. There will be an awards ceremony and celebration May 9 at 11 a.m. at the nursery, just off Highway 299 south of Bluff City. Those going should follow directions from Bluff City. DeGray Lake Resort State Park will be hosting an outdoor photography workshop April 29 and 30 at the park's amphitheater. For more information call 501-865-2801. The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend. Oak Grove Community Church continues to hold Sunday services at 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 noon. Tommy Parker and Homer Easley, evangelists, will preach until the return of their pastor, Rev. Charles Easley. Everyone is welcomed to attend. The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For more information, phone 353-4698.
