Court Approves Agreement With City For New LibraryBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, June 2, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune It's official. The interlocal agreement for a grant to build a new library has been approved by the Nevada County Quorum Court. The court, meeting in special session Monday, May 24, breezed through the resolution stating the county would enter into an agreement with the City of Prescott for the library. The two entities had to sign interlocal agreements to get the $1 million grant for the construction of a new library. State Sen. Mike Ross worked to get the grant for the area during the recent legislative session. There was no dissension among the six members of the court on hand for the meeting, as the vote was unanimous for the agreement. Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown said when Ross first approached him about the grant, he told him the county couldn't support a library without the city's help. For this to be done, both governing bodies had to enter into an interlocal agreement so the funds could be commingled. The county's part comes from a millage for the library which generates about $18,000 a year. Brown said this amount wouldn't have been enough to operate the existing library without the help of donations from the Friends of the Library and the city, among others.
