Briscoe AcknowledgedPublished Wednesday, April 19, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesThe United States Achievement Academy (USAA) acknowledges Nikita Briscoe of Gurdon as a United States National Award winner in history and government. This is a very prestigious award as few students attain this honor, according to USAA. Briscoe is an eighth grader at Cabe Middle School. She is the daughter of Earl and Floreda Briscoe of Gurdon. She is the granddaughter of John and Samella Henry and the late Obree and Erma Briscoe, all of Gurdon. Briscoe was nominated for this national award by her social studies teacher Ann Clingan. The academy selects USAA winners on the exclusive recommendation of teachers, counselors and other qualified sponsors and upon the standards of selection set forth by the academy.
