Authors Visit Cabe School

Published Wednesday, April 12, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

As part of a grant from the Reynolds Foundation, Cabe Middle School was recently privileged to have authors Dave and Pat Sargent as their guests.

The Sargents specialize in writing chapter books that appeal to young people. They make their residence in Prairie Grove.

Dave Sargent began writing in 1990 and Pat began writing shortly thereafter.

Because they both enjoy the outdoors and animals, many of their books have animals as characters.

Robyn LeMay, an eighth grader at Cabe Middle School, did an outstanding job introducing the speakers.

Ann Clingan and her home room students went out of their way in preparing the cafeteria so that the assembly would be a success.

The Sargents shared with the students some of their experiences growing up, as well as how they came to be authors. As a highlight of the visit the students were given an opportunity to have books they purchased autographed by the authors.

The CMS library was able to purchase several book by the Sargents earlier in the year.

Carla Jester, the school librarian, said she is unable to keep those books on the shelf, because they are in such high demand.
