Events That Matter To GurdonPublished Wednesday, April 12, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesA fish fry will be held at the First United Methodist Church, second and East Walnut, Thursday, April 27, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3.50 for children 6-12. Children under six eat for free. Take-outs will be available. Voter registration forms can be picked up at the Gurdon Municipal building in the treasurer's office for people who are not registered to vote. Voters must be registered by April 24 in order to be eligible to vote in the May 23 primary. Bobby and Kristyn Walker of Gurdon announce the birth of their son, Chandler Blake, born Wednesday, March 29, 2000. He weighed 8 pounds and five ounces. He is the grandson of Tommy and Vivian Overby and Bob and Sally Walker, all of Gurdon. Chandler is the great grandson of Ida Pearl Gills and Howard and Kathleen Batchelor, all of Gurdon.
Central Arkansas Development Council has discontinued accepting applications for the 2000 Home Energy Assistance winter program as of March 31. United States Census 2000 is looking for part-time workers. Tests will be given every Wednesday, at the Hoo-Hoo International building at 207 Main Street beginning at 1:30 p.m. Two forms of identification are needed. For more information call 246-0519. The Church of God on Carrie Street will celebrate its pastor, Rev. Ivory Currey's third anniversary Sunday, April 16, at 3:00 p.m. There will be an Easter program, Thursday, April 20, at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The First Church of God will be featuring The Hawkins Family singing group during a concert to be held Saturday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend. Fred C. Gragg SuperTree Nursery has achieved STAR Status in OSHA's voluntary protection program. There will be an awards ceremony and celebration May 9 at 11 a.m. at the nursery, just off Highway 299 south of Bluff City. Those going should follow directions from Bluff City. Oak Grove Community Church continues to hold Sunday services at 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 noon. Tommy Parker and Homer Easley, evangelists, will preach until the return of their pastor, Rev. Charles Easley. Everyone is welcomed to attend. An adult team spelling bee will be held Friday, April 14, at Prescott Elementary School starting at 7:00 p.m. Team entry deadline is April 7. Williams, Clark County Clerk, encourages any registered voter who has moved within Clark County and has not contacted the county clerk's office to make an address change to do so by calling 246-4491. Flea market at the Clark County Fairgrounds will be held May 6. It is sponsored by the Extension Homemakers Clubs. Inside and outside booths are now available, call 353-2616 or 246-7845 for information on booth rentals. The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For more information, phone 353-4698.
