College NewsPublished Wednesday, April 12, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesDavid Gates of Cabot High School has accepted a band scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville beginning in the fall. He plans to major in music education. David is the son of Doug and Darlene Gates of Cabot. He is grandson of Clarence and Martha Haltom of Gurdon and Billie Jean and the late Thurman Gates of Arkadelphia. Gates activities include marching and jazz bands, symphonic winds, CHS soccer team, Helping Hands, Ecology Club, Spanish Club and outstanding senior of 2000. He is a member of the Cabot United Methodist Church. Nicole McMichael, 18, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Arkansas Junior Brangus Breeders Association during its spring show on March 24 in Fayetteville. McMichael is the daughter of Donald W. McMichael and Ray and Debbi Smith. McMichael has been accepted to the University of Arkansas Community Collage at Hope. She will be seeking a degree in nursing.
