Classy Moments at CMS

Published Wednesday, April 12, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

We are looking forward to the Power Team assembly Thursday. Some of the students have seen them before, but many have not. It is one of the programs that you enjoy seeing it again and again.

Spring pictures are to be taken Thursday. Photos have to be paid in advance.

Mr. Bearden has basketball games following lunch. Students are to sign up if they want to play. Teams are selected and the list is in the bulletin. Students anxiously await hearing the bulletin read.

Last week's Chamber of Commerce banquet brought a big surprise to Mrs. Clingan, as she was honored as Teacher of the Year. She came so close to not going, but needless to say, she was sure glad she did.

We are certainly proud of the cheerleaders for 2000-2001. The members are Lindette Kadiri, Takia Williams, Katie Barbaree, Jill Plyler, Blair Griffin, Haley Griffin, Haleigh McDaniel, Destiny Talley, Callie King, Kayla Wells, Cassey Purifoy and Taylor Pace. Congratulations.

The Clark County Health Department had representatives at Cabe Middle School to administer the shots to sixth graders that needed them in order to enter the seventh grade. Some of those students went in and pushed their sleeves up and took their shots like a man,' so to speak. Then there were those who would ask "Will it hurt?" and then "It hurts." We just hope they live through the ordeal. Doubts are for JoLee and Aaron Charles. We also have great concern for Cynthia Anderson. Now Cynthia did not have a shot, but it looked as though it hurt her more than it did her daughter, Allison.

The fifth, sixth and eighth graders have completed the Stanford Nine test. The test began Monday and ended Wednesday of last week for the eighth grade. The fifth and sixth graders took a little longer due to their regular schedule. We are just glad that the tests have been completed.

The eighth graders can look forward to the week of April 24-28, as that will be the time for the ACTAP Benchmark test.

Measurements were taken for the caps and gowns for eighth grade graduation for May 22. It was exciting, watching the reactions of the students as they seem to realize that they are just about to take a big step in their lives entering high school.

I would like to say thank you to Josh and Jackie for the nice compliments paid to our article in the weekly paper.

Busy times are ahead of us as we are making the final plans of closing out school for this school year. We express our appreciation to each of you who have helped us make those Classy Moments at CMS.
