Oak Grove NewsLula Q. KendrickPublished Wednesday, April 5, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune There were two funerals held at Mt. Vernon AME Church Saturday, April 1. Andrew (Sonny) Christopher was one of them. Everybody knew him as Sonny Quarles. It was really a big funeral. People from Dallas, Texas, really did turn out. He was a very nice person. Your life speaks for you. The other funeral was from Dallas, Texas, also. It was Count Hughey, formerly of Rosston. I did not get to attend his funeral. He was a very nice person. God is calling the young as well as old. The year 2000 has called a lot of young people; that is why we should take one day at a time, Sweet Jesus. Sympathy goes out to the Quarles family and the Hughey family. My husband, George, has been a very sick man. He is in Medical Park Hospital in Hope. Girtie Blake is still in the rehab center in Hope. She really wants to come home, but she still can't walk. Artie Tidwell is not doing well. He can't be left alone. Let's pray for the sick and shut in. It's getting late in the evening and the son is almost gone. One of our good preachers, Rev. Wallace Ingram, is leaving. I sure do hate to see him go. Dave Coleman's house is almost finished. It is really beautiful. Genie Burnell is yet in the hospital in Texarkana. Her granddaughter, Gracie Young, goes to see her almost daily. Let's pray for her also.
