College NewsPublished Wednesday, June 9, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneBeth Culpepper of Prescott has made the dean's list at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. To be eligible for the dean's honor lists, a student is required to earn at least a 3.5 academic grade point average with no grade lower than a C on a minimum of nine semester hours pursued (100-level or higher). Only under graduates are qualified to make the list. Several students from Nevada County made the dean's list at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Deanna Gay Ellis and Tiffany Wynne of Prescott were on the all A's list. Also named to the dean's list from Prescott were Russell Keith Glass, Katie Gordon, Matthew McKamie, Ashlea Stewart and Jim Nick Stockton. Allison L. Young of Rosston also made the list. From Willisville, Laurie Lynn Herring and Lindsay Kaye Walthall made the all A's list. Amanda G. Clift of Emmet also made the all A's list. Sarah Huett of Emmet made the list as well. In all, 342 students were named to the SAU dean's list. To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must be registered in 12 or more semester hours and attain a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Kelly M. Whitmarsh of Prescott was named a presidential scholar at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in Conway her senior year. She received a bachelor of science degree in health science-physical therapy. In all UCA named 611 students presidential scholars for the spring semester. Presidential scholars are students who compile a perfect 4.00 grade point average on a minimum of 12 credit hours. Brian Cossey and Staci Wilson of Prescott were named to the dean's list at UCA. Cossey was a senior and Wilson was a junior. Cossey graduated with a bachelor of science in education degree in kinesiology/physical education-secondary. Wilson is working toward a bachelor of science degree in psychology. UCA named 1,120 students to the dean's list for the spring 1999 semester. To make the dean's list a student must compile a grade point average of at least 3.5, but less than 4.00 on a minimum of 12 credit hours. Kelly Smith of Prescott has been named to the Freed-Hardeman University dean's list for the spring semester. To be named to the list, a full time student must maintain a 3.3 grade point average for the semester. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, is a senior management accounting major. Freed-Hardeman University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's and master's degree. Miranda Lyn Williams was one of the 453 seniors who graduated from Southside High School in Ft. Smith on May 27. Williams is the daughter of Rick and Kathy Williams. Among those attending from this area were her grandparents, Curtis and Mary Johnson, great grandmother, Elizabeth Murrah, of Sutton and cousin, Heather Horne, of Gurdon.
