Bluff Cityby JERRY MCKELVYPublished Wednesday, March 29, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune The dogwood trees are blooming and the crappie should be biting. If you go outside these days to get a breath of fresh air, you will probably breathe in a large quantity of pollen instead. This is causing lots of itchy eyes, sore throats, and sinus problems for some folks. There is no use complaining about it. Since we can't change it, we must change the way we think about it. Some of our citizens have relatives in other states that are not doing too well. Roland Barlow, Doris Barlow's grandson is still having serious problems with his hand that was injured in a recent accident. David Bishop, brother of Kay Sellers, has developed leukemia and is being treated in Texas. Remember these families in your prayers. Charles and Patricia Farr are making frequent trips to the VA hospital in Little Rock where Charles is being treated for a leg injury. Have you filled out your census form yet? Maybe if everyone turns in their form, Bluff City's population sign might show an increase this time. Did you know that Bluff City once had the largest peach orchard in Nevada County? Here's an item from August, 1913. R. M. Henry has grafted a new peach called the Arkansas Lemon Cling. Henry is the largest peach grower in Nevada County. He has a canning outfit on his farm and cans a large amount of his crop each season. A thought: You may never know what results may come from your actions. But if you do nothing, there will be no results. Have a good week. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
