Rose Garden Club Meets

The Rose Garden Club met in the home of Max Hairston on March 21 at 1:30 p.m. with Elizabeth Haltom as co-hostess.

Betty Turner, president, presided over the business meeting. The president reported on the Arkansas State Flower and Garden Show held recently in Little Rock. She handed out pamphlets on day lily nutrition. Penny Richards gave a report on her furniture exhibit at the Flower and Garden Show.

It was announced there will be a workshop on landscape and gardening at Henderson State University April 8.

The president also announced there will be an iris show at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs on May 6 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Penny Richards presented the program on The Language of Flowers.' She told of some symbolic meanings associated with courtship during the 19th century. She formed a lovely nosegay using pansies, bells of Ireland, lemon balm, fennel and mint. Her program was different and entertaining.

The president appointed Nettie Lemons, Allene Spencer and Ann Pounds to serve on the nominating committee for the 2000-2001 club year.

Spring arrangements were brought by Betty Turner and Pauline Hays.

The hostesses served a delicious dessert.
