Gary Hicks To Seek Seat As Co. Sheriff

Gary L Hicks formally announces he is seeking the office of Sheriff of Nevada County.

Hicks is retired from the US Army and has a Bachelors of Science in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Sociology with emphasis in Criminal Law and Justice.

He is running as an independent candidate because of federal employment regulations which will not allow him to declare a party affiliation.

He is married to the former Rebecca Ann Spearman. They have a daughter who attends Nevada Elementary School, and two sons who are both sergeants on active duty in the US Army.

Hicks has several goals he wants to implement if elected. He wants to organize and train a Rapid Response Team for Nevada County, fully integrate the Sheriff's Department, improve patrol services for the rural community, develop and implement a comprehensive training program, slow traffic down on the roads in Nevada County.

He would also like to train all Deputies as first responders, reorganize the Sheriff's Department to include the Reserve Deputy Program, work with community leaders and interested residents to establish neighborhood watch programs in rural townships and areas, a senior citizen watch program and improve Jail security.

The decline in law enforcement services must be reversed, according to Hicks if elected

He will take immediate steps to get our Sheriff's Department back on track. The Sheriff's Department will return to being in place to Protect and Serve the residents of Nevada County, according to Hicks.

He said the residents of the county are the employers of all county employees and they will have access to their sheriff, and would always be willing to listen to ideas that will help improve everyone's safety and security.
