Registration Is Set For Prescott Kindergarten

April 10-14 has been set for the registration of children who will attend Prescott Elementary kindergarten for the 2000-2001 school term. A parent or guardian may register the child anytime between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on these dates at the school.

The law requires that any child who will be five years old on or before September 15 must attend kindergarten unless the parent or guardian files a signed kindergarten waiver form with the local school district administration office.

Parents should be prepared to take their child for registration as he or she will be given a brief test for class placement. The test will take 10 to 15 minutes.

Parents should take their child's certified birth certificate, social security number and record of immunizations. All kindergarten students may also have completed a comprehensive and developmental pre-school examination (health). This physical examination may be given at the local Nevada County Health Unit or you may have this done with your family physician. The elementary office can schedule an appointment with the Nevada County Health Unit at the time of registration. These examinations will be given at the Nevada County Health Unit on April 25 and April 26.

A child will be allowed to register without these official documents, but before he or she will be admitted to a kindergarten classroom, a copy of these documents must be on file in the school office.

Parents are urged to get all of the above documents in order now so that their children will be eligible to attend kindergarten when school begins in August.
