Bluff City NewsJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, March 22, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Spring now has officially arrived and we can bid the winter goodbye, at least as far as the calendar is concerned. I was lucky enough to get the long census form and I am still trying to figure out why the government needs to know what time I left for work last week and how many minutes it took to get there. Doris Barlow received word that her grandson, Roland Barlow, had received some serious injuries to one of his hands in an accident at work. He had to have some surgery and skin grafts, but is doing better. He is the son of Milton and Gwen Barlow and lives in Mississippi. Rex and Sandra Hildebrand were in Atlanta, Texas, last Sunday to visit their son, Stacy, and his family. They also wanted to hear a young gospel preacher who was preaching there. It just so happens it was Stacy. Bro. David Nicholas was sick and not able to preach in Bluff City on Sunday. Bro. Harley Sisson filled in for him for the morning services. It was also potluck Sunday and I know David hated to miss that. Jeanie and I made a trip to Missouri last week to visit relatives. We got their right after a cold front hit, so it still seemed like winter there. The seasonal changes are about one month behind us. The trees are still bare and only a few flowers were blooming. I did take advantage of the lower gas prices, which were about ten cents per gallon cheaper than here. Bill and Kay Sellers finally made it to Millwood Lake. They said they would have enjoyed it much more if it had been just a little warmer. Vernell Loe visited her sister, Betty Tomlin, in the Hope hospital, where she was recuperating from a recent surgery. Here's a little item from Bluff City in the year 1913: Mr. Hildebrand is opening up a first class grocery store. Don't complain. When you don't like a thing, change it. When you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
