Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, March 15, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Well, it looks like I faxed the wrong news last week, sending an old column instead of a current one. You didn't get to read my comments about Linda Carman breaking her foot or my thoughts about the coming of spring and the high gas prices. You missed little Lexi Nelson's comments that the dollar the tooth fairy left was not enough considering how much it hurt when she lost it. You didn't learn about all the sick folks, but they are all better now. Another week has passed and here's the latest news I have. Linda Carman's broken foot is improving and they think she might avoid having surgery. She was getting around pretty good this week. Gas prices are about the same, with no relief in sight. I see more people checking their wallet while they are filling up. Rex and Sandra Hildebrand made a trip to Houston to visit Rex's brother, Larry, and attend the wedding of Larry's daughter. Bill and Kay Sellers had planned to make a fishing trip to Millwood, but canceled due to the weather. They decided instead to visit a friend near Ruston, La., who recently had surgery. Jeanie and I visited some distant relatives from Texas at White Oak Lake State Park. They were descendants of Andrew Jackson Moore who married two McKelvy sisters (not at the same time) in the 1800s. He is buried at Ebenezer, but nobody seems to know much about him. If you have any information about him, let me know. There is an old Chinese proverb that says, "To forget one's ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root." Don't forget to wear something green and don't shoot the census taker if he visits your place. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
