Nevada County Spelling Bee Winners

Emmet School hosted the 2000 Nevada County spelling bee.

Participants from Prescott, Nevada and Emmet Schools in grades 4th-8th competed in the county-wide bee. The first, second and third place winners were announced in an awards assemble in the Ross Gymnasium. All first place winners competed for the overall positions. Aaron Stewart, field coordinator for the Mike Ross campaign, was the pronouncer for the final competition. Pat Loe and Janet Gordon served as judges for the finals. Miyaka Franklin, the overall winner, will compete in the state spelling bee this month in Little Rock. If the first overall winner is not able to attend, the second place overall winner will have the opportunity to attend. Students below are named from left to right.

FOURTH GRADE spelling bee winners are, third place: Melissa Miller-Emmet; first place: Clint Cox-Emmet; and second place: Cassie Daniels-Emmet.

FIFTH GRADE spelling bee winners are, third place: Adrienne Beard-Emmet; first place: Myrriah Chance-Emmet and second place: Ryan McElroy-Nevada.

SIXTH GRADE spelling bee winners are, third place: Matthew Rusher-Nevada; first place: Miyako Franklin-Prescott; and second place: Scott LaRue-Emmet.

SEVENTH GRADE spelling bee winners are, third place: Misty Gibson-Nevada; first place: Ryan Roberston-Prescott; and second place: Jennifer Parmer-Emmet.

EIGHTH GRADE spelling bee winners are, third place: Katrina Burson-Nevada; first place: Brittany Daniel-Emmet; and second place: Coy Tucker-Nevada.

OVERALL WINNERS of the Nevada County spelling bee are Ryan Roberson, second place, and Miyako Franklin, first place. They both attend school in Prescott.
