Former Gurdon Resident; Texas Teacher Honored

Gloria Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darlty Bunn ,of Gurdon has been elected teacher of the year 1999-2000 at Franklin Elementary School in Port Arthur, Texas.

Franklin Elementary is a recognized school and has an enrollment of over 1,000 students, which include regular, gifted and bilingual students.

Smith was previously elected teacher of the year in 1993 while at Wheatley School of Special Programs, also located in Port Arthur.

Smith is a kindergarten teacher and her husband, Joe, coaches at Thomas Jefferson High School. They have three children.
