Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, March 8, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

A big congratulations goes to the Cabe Middle School girls choir, as they received superior ratings in performance and sight-reading at the Southwest Region Choir Festival. Mrs. Hitt, choir director, was absolutely beaming with adoration for the choir members. It takes a lot of hard work for each of the girls to be able to obtain the voice tone needed, and to sing on key at the proper time.

Students who have not been involved in a fight during the nine weeks were rewarded with a dance for a hour. Music, like some of us have never heard, was being enjoyed by the dancers. The fifth and sixth graders danced and afterwards went back to their classes. The seventh and eighth graders took over and it seems as though everyone really enjoyed the treat.

We were sadden to hear about Krissi Davies falling from her horse and breaking a leg. Good news, however, as she is able to be back at school. She is enjoying the use of the new wheel chair. You just have to look out as she is really learning how to get around with those wheels. Look for a 360' from her any day now.

The Cabe Junior High cheerleaders will be sponsoring basketball games for CMS. A maximum of 20 girls and 20 boys from each grade were to sign up to play. The first 20 from each grade to register to play would be divided into two teams and then play each other. The games will be held Thursday, March 9.

The Stanford Nine testing will be conducted April 3-7 for the fifth, sixth and eighth grades. Any student who brings up their test score five points or scores in the 85th percentile will be taken on a trip to Magic Springs in May. Any eighth grader who scores in the 85th percentile in either total math or reading will be eligible for the Presidential Academic Award.

Work continues on the yearbook and if you plan to order one of these great memory books you need to do so by March 10. Until next time we will be making those Classy Moments at CMS.
