Tests For Census Workers To Be Given Today In GurdonBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 8, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Want to earn some extra money? Tests for census surveyors will be held Wednesday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Hoo Hoo building on Main Street in Gurdon. Those passing the test and being hired can make $9.25 per hour and be paid 32.5 cents per mile driven. Gurdon Mayor Rick Smith said it's important for local residents to work as numerators for the census bureau, going door-to-door gathering information from people. "It's important to get a good count, he said, "because a lot of the city's money is based on the count and helps determine the distribution of state and federal funds. A good count is critical." Smith urges those who can to take the test and help out with the census count. In addition, he encourages all Gurdon area residents to fill out and return the census forms when they arrive in the mail. If enough people are interested in taking the test, but can't be there at 1:30 p.m., he said, an evening meeting will be set up. Those planning on taking the test should carry two forms of identification with them. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
