Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who wish to stop drinking, meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991.


A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse Thursday, March 23.

Supplemental security income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213.


Blevins School will host a series of meetings to provide information about the upcoming school bond election scheduled for March 14. The next meeting will be at Blevins School Thursday, March 2, at 7 p.m. It will be held in the cafetorium.

All Blevins School patrons are invited to attend.


The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is seeking ideas and items to put into the millennium time capsule.

This box will be placed in the mini-park that is being developed on the former Sterling Store lot at the corner of Main and West First Streets. It will be buried in early summer.

The box will be opened in 100 years.

The Poy-Boy Riding Club will sponsor a 3-day trail ride during the Jonquil Festival at Old Washington on March 3, 4 and 5.

There is no charge. Those going need to take their own lunch and drink. Any new members and guests will be welcome.

Mount Moriah Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting Sunday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Moriah Church, located on Highway 371 between Laneburg and Rosston. Everyone is invited to attend.


If your child will have his or her third or fourth birthday before September 15, then HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters) would like to make you an offer you will not want to refuse.

You may receive free teaching materials to prepare your child for school.

Mackenzie, Kirby and Benton Meador would like to announce the birth of their sister, Grace Frances Meador. Grace was born January 28, 2000, in Plymouth, Mass. She weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Proud parents are Doug and Mandy Kirby Meador. Grandparents are Ted and Martha Kirby of Texarkana, Ark., formerly of Prescott, and John and Betsy Meador of Fordyce.


The Boys to Men and Girls to Women Coalition of Prescott will hold its monthly video night on Thursday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Munn's Chapel Baptist Church in Prescott.

Activities should end around 7:30. The video is entitled 'Abstinence .....Is the Right Choice.' Also discussed will be tentative plans for the organization's Heifer Project International activities, which will be coming up in March.

All mentees, mentors, guardians and parents and board members are urged to be present. Refreshments will be served.


The Emmet School board will have is regular monthly meeting, Monday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in room 4.

The agenda will include elementary and high school principals' reports, superintendent's report and personnel matters.


There will be a musical benefit for Mary 'Patsy' Murphy, Saturday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at the Faith Temple Church of God In Christ at 506 W. Warren.

Mrs. Murphy's home was destroyed by a fire recently. All choirs, groups and soloists are invited. If you cannot attend, a donation is asked. It is sponsored by Rev. Ivory Curry and the Faith Singers.


Robert A. (Tony), Mary and sister, Leslie Russell, are proud to announce the arrival of Jacob Tyler Russell to their home.

He was born at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia, weighing five pounds and six ounces. He was 18 inches long.

His grandparents are Carolyn Arnett and the late Bob Arnett of Prescott and the late Sam and Regina Russell of Okolona.


Arkansas Public Employees Retirement Systems (APERS) will be bringing a retirement seminar to the Hope area on March 30 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fair Park Community Center, Park Drive in Hope.

This seminar is for state, county, municipal and school employees who are members of APERS. The seminar will include a speaker from APERS, as well as tepresentatives from Social Security Administration, state and public school employees insurance and estate planning.


Friendship Cemetery in McCaskill will have a cleanup day on March 18. Starting time will be at 10 a.m.

If you have loved ones buried there, plan to attend. Take shovels, leaf rakes and wheelbarrows.

If the weather is rainy, it will be held the following Saturday at the same time.

Kelsey and Sherman Glass of Prescott are proud to announce the arrival of their twin sisters, Kristie Kyla and Kenzie Kayla, who were born at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia Wednesday, February 23, 2000.

Kristie arrived at 7:36 a.m. and weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces. She was 19 inches long. Kenzie arrived at 7:38 a.m. and weighed 5 pounds, 8 ounces and was 18+ inches long.

The proud parents are Russell and Tammy Glass of Prescott. Grandparents are Bob and Denver Glass of Magnolia and Joyce and Tommy Hicks of Bodcaw. Great grandparents are Loyce Thompson of Prescott, Nora and Walter Nichols of Bodcaw and Donitta and Elmer Daniels of Hope.
