Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, March 1, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune The news this week will be short and sweet since I am feeling a little under the weather. It seems I've caught a bad cold or virus. We are beginning to get a little rainfall, which is badly needed. I have even heard some loggers say they would like to see a good rain. That is an unusual statement for a logger to make. Many of the mills have too much wood on hand. Have you ever wondered how long a terrapin can live. In 1932, A.E. Adams of Bluff City found a terrapin that he had marked in 1886 with his initials A.E.A. and the date. He also found it and marked it in 1904, 1906, 1923 and in 1926. In 46 years it was never found more than 300 yards from where he had first marked it in 1886. This is according to a story published in the county paper in 1932. Something to think about: The letters M.D. after a doctor's name could stand for 'many dollars.' Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
