Deaths, FuneralsPublished Wednesday, March 1, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneIna K. Jarvis Ina K. Jarvis, 81, of Rosston died Tuesday, February 22, 2000, at St. Michael's Health Care System in Texarkana, Texas. Mrs. Jarvis was born November 21, 1918, in Chidester to Lo Grady and Annie Stinnett. She was a retired rural mail carrier at Rosston and a member of First Baptist of Rosston. She was preceded in death by a son, John Jarvis. Survivors include her husband, Lee Jarvis of Rosston; two sons, Bill Jarvis and wife Daisy of Bearden and Danny Jarvis and wife Terry of Willisville; two sisters, Peggy Boren of Richmond, Texas, and Bernice Jarvis of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren, Kyle Jarvis, Jace Jarvis, Laurie Herring and Matthew Herring. Services were held Thursday, February 24, at First Baptist Church in Rosston with Rev. Petie Ward and Rev. Jim Cross officiating. Burial was in Rosston Cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott. Gerald Overton Gerald Overton, 71, of Prescott died Wednesday, February 23, 2000, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope. Mr. Overton was born March 17, 1928, in Nevada County to Bige and Willie Chamberlain Overton. He was a retired security guard from Potlatch, a member of Park Missionary Baptist Church of Prescott and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary Fern Glass Overton of Prescott; one son, James Overton of Hope; four daughters, Linda Kirkpatrick and JoNell Ward both of Hope, and Mary Gail Hughes and Geraldine Overton both of Prescott; two step-brothers, A.B. Luck of Rosston and Calvin Luck of Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday, February 25, at Park Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Britt DuPree and Rev. Jim Cross officiating. Burial was in Caney Cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott. Lawrence David Sallee Lawrence David Sallee was born in the community of Norphlet in Union County June 12, 1924, to the union of Grace Barton Sallee and Lawrence Jefferson Sallee. Mr. Sallee departed this life on February 25, 2000, at the age of 75 at Christus St. Michael Center in Texarkana, Texas, from complications of abdominal surgery conducted January 30 at Medical Park Hospital in Hope. He was graduated from Emmet High School on May 19, 1942. Between his 11th and 12th grade years he spent 110 days working in the U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps. After graduation he entered the U.S. Marine Corps in April 1943 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on December 5, 1945. During this service he received three battle stars as a member of the 3rd Marine Division. His first invasion was the Bouganville/Puruata Island in November 1943. His second invasion was Guam in July 1944. For these two his unit received meritorious citations. His third invasion was Iwo Jima in February 1945. Mr. Sallee witnessed the now famous raising of the American flag by his fellow Marines on Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. After returning from WW II he married Martha Etta Robinson of Hope on June 5, 1946. This union remained steadfastly intact throughout his lifetime. In 1948 they moved to Texas City, Texas, where he entered into employment with the Union Carbide Corporation as a refinery operator. In June of 1949 Mr. Sallee joined the U.S. Army Reserves and was called on to serve his country. He received orders for service in the Rupublic of Korea via Camp Aberdeen, Md. Mr. Sallee's second honorable discharge was from the U.S. Army with the rank of Master Sergeant (E8, Tech) on April 24, 1953. He then returned to employment with Union Carbide until January 1960, where he and Martha relocated to Hope and continued to raise three children. Mr. Sallee entered into the carpentry profession and was involved in constructing many ArkLaTex facilities until his retirement. He was a member of Carpenter Union local 379 of Texarkana, U.S.A. In April 1999, 55 years after the fact, the U.S. Veterans Administration recognized Mr. Sallee as 100% disabled as a result of his WW II experiences. He is survived by his wonderful and loving wife of 53 years, Martha Robinson Sallee of Hope; a son, Richard and his wife Connie and their children Erik, Brigitte and Briana of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters, Sandra Faulkner and her husband Jack and their children, Jacque, Jeff and Jim of Emmet and Darlene (Purtle) Stuart and her husband Chuck and their children, Courtney, Bryan, Chad, Amber, Jill and Sandy of Ashdown; one great grandchild, Kobe, also of Ashdown; a younger brother, Walter Sallee of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a half brother, Glenn Dickerson of Hope. He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Rachel West of Hope. He was a long time active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Hope. Services were Monday, February 28, at the Herndon Funeral Home Chapel in Hope. Internment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home of Hope. James Paul Ridling James Paul Ridling, 78, of Magnolia died Saturday, February 26, 2000, at Magnolia Hospital. Mr. Ridling was born March 6, 1921, in Nevada County to Robert Wiley Ridling and Marietta Ridling. He served in the U.S. Army and he was overseas for three years during WW II. He was a retired dye operator of 37 years for Alumax. Mr. Ridling was member of First Baptist Church of Magnolia. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one son-in-law. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Bailey Ridling; a son, Patrick Ridling of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Beverly Campbell of Lewisville, Paula Newton of Magnolia and Meleah Critton of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Kristi Odell and Kelly Campbell both of Lewisville and Trevor Ridling of Baytown, Texas; and three great grandchildren, Blake Odell and Kelbi Campbell both of Lewisville and Christopher Critton of Little Rock. Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, in the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia with Revs. David Watkins, Arlis East and Randy Click officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Magnolia under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home of Magnolia. Pallbearers were Chris Critton, Perry Jett, Dennis Landrum, David Turner, David Boggan and Kelly Campbell. Mae East Mae East, 94, of Benton died Friday, February 18, 2000. Mrs. East was born June 11, 1905, in Fouke. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, George O. East; three sons, Loyd East, Gradon East and James East, and a daughter, Selma Dale Cox. Survivors include two sons, Arlis C. East of Fordyce and Jerrell W. East of Alexander; a daughter, Carrie Byers of Hope; seventeen grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 21, at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel in Benton with a graveside service at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Nevada County. The ministers were Bro. Harvey Williams and Bro. Cameron Albert. Audrey M. Fore Audrey M. Fore, 68, of Rosston died Friday, February 25, 2000, at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. Mrs. Fore was born March 21, 1931, in Nevada County to William and Effie Marlar Martin. She was a wife, a mother and a retired bookkeeper. Mrs. Fore was a member of White's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Martin and Glen Martin. Survivors include her husband, Herbert Fore of Rosston; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill M. Fore and Georganne of South Lake, Texas, Fred Fore and Elaine of Windom, Texas and Stephen Fore and Jane of South Lake, Texas; two brothers, Watson Martin of Fort Worth, Texas, and Hershel Martin of Hurst, Texas; three sisters, Lorraine Foster of Prescott, Afton Butler of Texarkana, Texas, and Merlene Hohman of Farmers Branch, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Graveside services were held Sunday, February 27, at Holly Springs Cemetery near Rosston under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
