Howard Seeks Re-ElectionPublished Wednesday, March 1, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesJohn Howard has announced he will seek re-election as Justice of the Peace for the Clark County Quorum Court, District 7, which consists of Joan, Manchester, Gum Springs, Curtis and Lakeview. Howard is a native of Clark County. He and his wife Bonnie live in the Manchester community, where they raise cattle. Retired from the U.S. Air Force, Howard is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He is also retired from Henderson State University's physical plant. He is a member of Manchester Methodist Church and serves on the board of trustees. He is a member of the Ouachita Area Council of the Boy Scouts, vice chairman of the River Valley Water System and chairman of the East Clark County Fire Department. Howard is a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner and member of Arkadelphia Lodge 381. He attended Arkadelphia Public Schools and graduated from Allan Handcock College in Santa Maria, Calif. "My sincere thanks to the voters in District 7 for giving me this privilege of serving as their representative on the Quorum Court," he said in a prepared statement. "My priority has been and will continue to be for better roads and bridges in Clark County. I take a personal interest in this subject as well as physical where possible. A lot of my time is spent on the building committee, restoration of the old Courthouse and construction of the court rooms, and restoration of the Veterans Monument."
