Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who wish to stop drinking, meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991.


A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse Thursday, February 24, and Thursday, March 23.

Supplemental security income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213.


Blevins School will host a series of meetings to provide information about the upcoming school bond election scheduled for March 14. The meetings are each at 7 p.m. and at the following locations: February 3 at DeAnn Fire Department, February 24 at McCaskill Fire Department and March 2 in the Blevins School cafetorium.

All Blevins School patrons are invited to attend.


The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is seeking ideas and items to put into the millennium time capsule.

This box will be placed in the mini-park that is being developed on the former Sterling Store lot at the corner of Main and West First Streets. It will be buried in early summer.

The box will be opened in 100 years.

The Poy-Boy Riding Club will sponsor a 3-day trail ride during the Jonquil Festival at Old Washington on March 3, 4 and 5.

There is no charge. Those going need to take their own lunch and drink. Any new members and guests will be welcome.

Mount Moriah Cemetery Association will have its annual meeting Sunday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Moriah Church, located on Highway 371, south of Laneburg. Everyone is invited to attend.


If your child will have his or her third or fourth birthday before September 15, then HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters) would like to make you an offer you will not want to refuse.

You may receive free teaching materials to prepare your child for school.

Nevada County and the city of Bodcaw Water Project ground-breaking will be held Friday, February 25, at 10 a.m. at the Waterloo water tower site on Highway 76, about two miles pass Harrison Chapel Church. There will be a sign on the right.

Everyone is encouraged to be present for this special occasion.
