Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, February 23, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

It has been decided. Make up the snow days. The school board decided that the days Feb. 21, March 17, April 21 will be the days we are to make up for the days missed due to the snow. That's not all, as Sat., May 27, will be for report cards to be given out. As Looney Toons says, "That's all folks" until the new school year of 2000-2001.

We are not complaining about the make up days, as we enjoyed the beautiful snow. It was a time to stay at home, as traveling was very dangerous.

The school-wide spelling bee was conducted and the winners are Robyn LeMay, Michael Testa, Tory Burson, Allison Anderson and Dustry Craig. Great work! Thanks to Mrs. Downey for all of her time and patience while working with the students. The county spelling bee will be conducted Feb. 25 at Gurdon Primary School. Great time to show it off.

The teachers who went to Nashville, Tenn., for a reading, science and math workshop are back safe and sound. We have heard about the breakdown of the bus they experienced. Yes, yes, we have heard about that, as Mrs. Smithson thought the end was heading her way. They had to rent a van until the bus could be repaired.

Wouldn't it have been interesting to have been there when Mrs. Downey, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Smithson, Mrs. Whitlock, Mrs. Roe, Mr. Fallia, and Mr. Alexander stepped out of the bus with Gurdon cheerleaders printed on the side. Look out, Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Bullard, you may have them to try out for cheerleaders next year.

The Cabe Middle School King and Queen were crowned at the CMS Student Council assembly Monday. Queen Natalie Tarpley and King Sean O'Connel will reign over Cabe Middle School until February of 2001.

The Royal Court consists of fifth graders Hanna Prince and Josh Lockwood, seventh graders Ashley Caviness and Jermey Williams, and eighth graders Brittany Walker and Davion Williams. All these students were selected by their classmates and voted on by the student body. Each of these are winners.

The book fair has certainly kept Mrs. Jester busy, as the students have found several items they have purchased or plan to purchase. The fair will come to a close Tuesday. We appreciate the parents who took the time to come to make some purchases.

Those seventh graders in social studies know the states and capitals of all 50 states, and probably most importantly , most of the students can spell each correctly.

Busy time. All of the time. Time seems to be flying by, as we stay busy making those Classy Moments at CMS.
