Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, February 16, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesWe are so proud of our Cabe Junior High cheerleaders. Last week on Feb. 5 they competed in the regional tryouts in Texarkana and came home with first place trophy. As mentioned before, it requires a lot of extra work for those girls to stay ready for competition. They did a great job. Mrs. Bullard, the sponsor, works hard keeping the girls 'on task' and we appreciate her time and dedication so very much. A short assembly was conducted Friday that gave the student body the opportunity to see the cheerleaders perform the winning routine. A bonus to the assembly was watching the senior high cheerleaders perform as they went to compete on the state level Saturday, and won! Several students who did not get to perform in the talent show held in December were able to share that talent at the assembly. Future members of flag line and majorettes might have been among those who performed. Without question, CMS is a school with lots of talents. Several teachers attended a reading, science and math conference in Nashville, Tenn., for four days. Mrs. Downey, Mrs. Whitlock, Mrs. Smithson, Mrs. Clark, Mr. Alexander, Mr. Failla, and Mrs. Roe were greatly missed from their buildings. Junior high basketball is over for this school year. We are proud of the teams as we know they did their best and that is all we ask of them. Good job! Can you believe that we still have a little snow scattered around campus? We seem to have ways of finding the mud outside and bringing some of it inside. We are going to have to be more careful. We will be able to tell you the names of the new king and queen of Cabe Middle School in next week's Gurdon Times. Voting was to be completed Friday. The assembly Monday will honor the new royalty. We can never say too often, but again we express our appreciation for your support as we continue to make those Classy Moments at CMS. CMS will be hosting a scholastic book fair Feb. 16-21. More than 150 publishers will be providing the newest books and exciting learning products that will be of interest to readers of all ages. This is a very special opportunity for the students to be able to view the variety of works by popular authors and illustrators, and hopefully make several purchases. The goal of the book fair is to help classrooms have their individual library for reading enjoyment. The display of books and the 'classroom wish list' will make it easy to accomplish the goal. Everyone can be part of this accomplishment by making purchases for self-enjoyment or by donating books to specific classrooms. The book fair will help to promote learning through reading, as well as to help make purchases of additional accelerated reading books. The book fair will be held in the media center at CMS and will be open to the students from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day of the fair. If you have any questions concerning the book fair, please call Mrs. Carla Jester at CMS, 353-4311. See you at the fair. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
