Gurdon To Host Drum Corps FridayPublished Wednesday, June 9, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesGurdon High School will host the only Arkansas Drum Corps Delta Brigade on June 11 through June 20. A drum corps is not a marching band, but the two are similar. A drum corps does not have all the instrumentation that a traditional high school marching band has, but it does have a very extensive percussion section, color guard consisting mainly of people who twirl a flag, no majorettes and a brass section that represents the bass, tenor, alto and soprano line. These young people and their staff will use the Gurdon facilities to practice at least 12 hours a day, most of it outside, and on June 18 they will perform for Gurdon at Gus Brown Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Gurdon Band Boosters and Gurdon Rotary Club will begin serving burgers, chips and soft drinks at 6:00. Cost for the supper is $3.50 and includes the price of the show. The public may purchase tickets around town at participating businesses or at the gate the night of the event. Gurdon has three members in the drum corps. They are Andrew Wilson, Mary Lee and Melanie Wilson. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
