Rural Water Sign Up Begins, Again

Published Wednesday, February 16, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Partnership, Nevada County and the city of Prescott announce the kick-off drive for the rural water project.

Nevada County has secured $4.2 million in funding to start the rural water project.

"All that remains," says Jon Chadwell, director of Economic Development, "is to sign up 600 customers."

A number of customers are still on the books from a previous effort and their deposits remain valid for this drive. When 600 customers are signed up the average monthly bill will be around $28 to $30, based on using 4,500 gallons of water a month.

This effort is different from the previous drive, because this time the money for the project is already in the bank.' The engineering firm will complete the plans late this year, having them ready for bid by November or December, the joint announcement said. Construction should be able to start in January 2001 with completion of the project approximately one year later.

"The success of this project is really up to the local community this time," states Chadwell. "The only thing that can stop us is not having enough people to sign up."

Everyone is encouraged to attend the meeting set for February 22 at 6 p.m. at the Nevada County Courthouse. The meeting will share information and answer questions from the audience. Families will also have an opportunity to sign-up at that time.

If you live in one of the areas covered by the rural water project or are unsure whether you are covered, make every effort to attend the meeting.

For more information about this project call the Partnership at 887-6208.
