Bluff City

Things are beginning to get back to normal after the blizzard of 2000. I'm sure the car wash business is brisk these days.

I feel for those farmers who lost chicken hours and barns. What is a minor inconvenience to most of us can be the straw that broke the camel's back to some. If you remember, it was in 1978 that many chicken house were lost in Hempstead and Nevada counties from the weight of the ice.

I hope those travelers on I-30 who were forced to seek shelter in Prescott left with a favorable impression of our county. I know they will never forget their experience. We should also express our thanks to those who provided the shelters and to those who worked long hours to try to get traffic moving again.

We in Bluff City remember January of 1979 when the power was off for 75 hours due to the ice. At least this time the power stayed on or it would have been much worse.

I believe the Meador family built the largest snowman I have seen. It will take it quiet a while to melt.

It was in January 1983 that George Henry's service station on the corner in downtown Bluff City was being torn down. Do you remember what it looked like or what brand of gasoline he sold?

Thought for this week: Just think how much deeper the ocean would be if sponges didn't live there.
