We Get Letters

Dear Editor,

In my former profession I had many opportunities to participate in weather emergencies. As an observer of the recent weather emergency in Nevada County made me realize how fortunate and thankful we should be for our emergency and volunteer personnel during time of dire need.

Space does not allow me to go into detail on who performed well above and beyond their calls of duty and responsibilities. However, I would be remiss not to mention such organizations as law enforcement services, Office of Emergency Services, rescue and fire departments, county, cities and state personnel. Also the churches who opened their facilities for persons that were stranded on the interstate. But most of all to the many volunteers who braved the elements to help their neighbors or persons that they never knew or will probably never see again.

Incidently, despite the record snowfall, Mother Nature was kind for not including frozen precipitation, which would have deprived us of our utilities and caused even worse treacherous conditions.
