Published Wednesday, February 9, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Ila Upchurch Community Corporation planned its annual Martin L. King and black history program during its regular monthly meeting on January 3 at the Ila Upchurch Center.

The program has been set for February 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church here in Prescott.

All local and surrounding churches have been invited to participate on this year's program.

The program will highlight various songs, skits and readings. The 2000 Black History Month theme is 'Heritage and Horizons: the African American Legacy and the Challenges of the 21st Century.' The program will be centered around the theme.

Other areas of interest at the Ila Upchurch Center includes its annual banquet, which is scheduled for April. More detailed information will be available at a later date.

The Ila Upchurch Corporation is a non-profit organization and has a board of 15 members, various standing committees and ad-hoc committees. The board meets the first Monday of the month and the meetings are open to the public.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the center or would like more information, contact Gladys Kirby, president, or Henry Butler, vice president, by calling 887-2678.
