NFL Player Stranded On I-30; Brought To ShelterBY RICKY RAGSDALEPublished Wednesday, February 2, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune By Ricky Ragsdale What could be worse than being stuck in winter weather in Arkansas. Well, how about being a defensive back from the National Football League (NFL) Indianapolis Colts and being stuck in bad weather and ending up in Prescott? Reports from First Baptist Church in Prescott said that Prescott Police Officer Morris Irvin brought in Indianapolis Colts' safety/defensive back Billy Austin Thursday night. Austin was traveling through the area with his Rottweiler puppy and apparently got stranded before spending the night. Volunteers at First Baptist said Austin was trying to remain low key and not attract attention. Austin has played for the Colts for two years. He is a college graduate of New Mexico and was not drafted. He is from Sugarland, Tex., where he graduated from Kemper High School. He lettered in football and track . Austin now resides in Houston, Tex., though, he was headed to the Dallas area according to officials. Volunteers accessed the abcsports.com website in order to verify that it was indeed Austin that spent the evening with them. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
