Two people were hired, and two lodged complaints about the changing of a school's name during a special meeting of the Prescott School Board.

The board met Wednesday, Jan. 26, for the purpose of hiring additional personnel and purchasing a new garbage truck for the district.

However, two area residents were also on hand, letting the board know they weren't happy with Prescott Middle School having its name changed to McRae Middle School.

The name change occurred during the regular meeting of the board, Wednesday, Jan. 19.

At the time, the board went with the name change from PMS to McRae to honor former Arkansas Governor Tom McRae, who was from Prescott. The McRae family originally donated the land the school was built on to the district.

Once the complaints had been made, Prescott Superintendent Ron Wright explained why the name change was done. This apparently satisfied the patrons, who voiced no other grievances.

From there the board hired Barbara Cornelius as a Title I aide and bus driver, along with Pat Fulmer being added as a part-time baseball coach.

The board also voted to buy a truck for $2,000 from Tim Ashbrook to replace the district's current trash truck.
