Earl Jr. and Crystel Melugin wish to announce the birth of their son, Brandon Lee, on Tuesday, January 18, 2000. Weighing 11 pounds and 10 ounces, Brandon is the grandson of Larry and Fay Whisenhunt and Earl and Ruby Melugin.


Baseball and softball league will be meeting on Tuesday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gurdon Municipal Building. Parents of participants are encouraged to attend.


Eastern Star Baptist Church youth will sponsor their fifth annual Valentine's program on Feb. 13 at 2:30 p.m. Special guests are Mt. Canaan and Mt. Zion youth. The theme will be 'Bring a Sweetheart to Church.'All churches invited to attend.


Arkansas Rehabilitation Services will be holding sessions in Gurdon on Feb. 10 and 24 at the Gurdon Municipal Building from 8:30-11:30 a.m. For information call 353-2514.


The First United Methodist Church of Gurdon will be holding a po' boy dinner on Thursday, February 10, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $4 for adults and $3 for children (6-12 years old). Under 6 years old eat for free.


Crystal and Robert Howell of Gurdon are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Calah Adriana, born Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

She weighed 7 pounds and 5+ ounces and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Mary Brock, Molly and Ray Howell and Mary Jones, all of Gurdon.

Big brother Kurt Howell welcomed his sister home.


The Clark County Extension office in Arkadelphia has a new look in a new building. Its new address is 501 Clay Street, in the former Department Human Services building, which held the courtroom for a while. The phone number remains the same 246-2281.


David Goodson of the Farm Service Agency wishes to inform livestock producers that the final date to request benefits through the Livestock Assistance Program has been extended until February 4. For details call the Clark County FSA office at 870-246-9816.


The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather.



Gurdon Lions Club is now able to begin collecting old eye glasses. The collection point in Gurdon is First Baptist Church or you can call Charles Shaver at 353-4640.

Old glasses are recycled by Lions International.


Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.


Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
