As basketball season winds down, the conference races are heating up.

In the tough 7AA Central division, the Stephens Roadrunners are racing away with the conference crown in sight as they are undefeated at 9-0 in senior boys play.

Next on the list is a hard-nosed Nevada Blue Jay team with a 7-3 league mark, while Lewisville is a surprise in third at 5-3.

Gurdon enters the list in fourth place with a 4-4 mark in conference action.

The bottom of the bracket sees Genoa in fifth at 3-5, Stamps sixth with a 1-7 record and, surprisingly, Blevins last at 1-8.

On the girls' side, Genoa Central is in the lead with a 7-1 record.

Lewisville's Lady Red Devils enter the list in second at 6-2, while Stephens is third with a 6-3 record.

Gurdon's girls are also fourth, with a 5-3 overall mark in the conference.

The bottom three teams start with the Lady Jays of Nevada fifth at 4-6, Blevins next with a 2-7 record and Stamps last, winless in eight conference outings.

The remaining regular season schedule is as follows: January 28 at home against Nevada; Jan. 31, at Blevins; Feb. 1, on the road to Genoa; Feb. 3, at Blevins; and ending the season Feb. 8, at Sparkman.

This year's district tournament will be held at Stephens, with the top four teams in the district tilt earning a trip to the regional tourney.

The conference winner gets a bye in the district tourney and an automatic bid to the regionals.

From there, the four and five seeds will meet, as will seeds three and six and two and seven.
