Sen. Ross Leads In FundraisingPublished Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneState Senator Mike Ross of Prescott, candidate for hte Democratic nomination for the United States Congress from the Fourth District of Arkansas, set another new Arkansas record for the most money ever raised by a non-incumbent in an off-election year. He reported raising over $380,000 when he filed his year-end report Monday, January 10, with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). "We set a new fund-raising record on our June 30 FEC Report and our goal for December 31 was to show across the board strength and break $300,000," Ross said. "Clearly our latest report demonstrates that people throughout each of the 26 counties of the Fourth Congressional District believe I can defeat Congressman Dickey," said Ross. "I am pleased and humbled at the amazing amount of support our campaign has received from people from all walks of life throughout this congressional district. This campaign is about protecting our families, keeping our schools safe and providing smaller class sizes for our children, and keeping the promises we have made to our seniors to save Social Security and Medicare," Ross said. "Our fund-raising success clearly shows the voters are responding to our message of putting our families and children first." Ross, a state senator and co-owner Holly's Health Mart in Prescott, raised over $380,000 in less than seven months from 1,131 contributors. His average individual contribution was $256.62, and over 89% of his contributions have come from Arkansas. He begins the election year with a cash-on-hand balance of over $305,000. Ross became the youngest member of the Arkansas Senate in 1990, representing Clark, Columbia, Nevada and Ouachita Counties. He is serving his third term..
