Clark County Approved For LAPPublished Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesClark County has been approved for Livestock Assistance Program (LAP), according to the U.S.D.A. Farm Service Agency (FSA). This program is designed to assist eligible livestock producers who suffer pasture losses during the summer of 1999. To be eligible, producers must have suffered at least a 40% loss during the payment period. Also, cattle must have been owned at least 90 days. Sign-up will continue until January 21. CRP SIGN-UP The FSA has also announced the 20th Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) sign-up that begins Jan. 18 and continues through Feb. 11. CRP is a voluntary program that offers annual rental payments and cost share assistance to establish long term resource conserving covers on eligible land. Crop land must have been planted or considered planted to an agricultural commodity in two of the last five years. The duration of contracts are from 10 to 15 years, depending on the established cover. Under the 20th sign-up, all eligible offers will continue to be evaluated and ranked using an environmental benefits index based on the environmental benefits expected to accrue if the land is enrolled in the CRP. Producers interested in CRP should contact the FSA county office at the number above. Due to the current workload demands, you are asked to call for an appointment to sign-up.
