College NewsPublished Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesAndrew Wilson of Gurdon High School and Christina Marie Hopson of Arkansas School for Mathematics and Sciences have accepted academic scholarships to UCA, beginning with the 2000 fall term in August. UCA awards academic scholarships, renewable for four years, based on ACT score and class rank, as well as National Merit and National Achievement competition. Wilson will receive the Trustee Scholarship for tuition, fees, room and board and a $1,000 yearly stipend. Hopson will receive a University Scholarship for tuition and fees. Wilson, son of Roy and Elizabeth Wilson of Gurdon, is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, band and Four-States honor band. He made all-region jazz and concert bands, received the National Merit Scholar commendation, is in the gifted and talented program and was a Governor's School qualifier. He plans to major in sociology. Hopson, daughter of Wallace and Regina Hopson of Gurdon, is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, Key Club, Women's Issues, Fellowship of Christian Students, choir, yearbook staff and band. She was chosen a student residential mentor at ASMS and was nominated for the African-American Future Educators of Arkansas Conference. She plans to major in biology. The University of Central Arkansas Dean's List for the fall 1999 semester includes 1,185 students who achieved high grade point averages. Dean's List students at UCA are those who earn a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average on at least 12 credit hours, according to Provost John Mosbo. Rusty M.
