Cineposium 2000 Set For Hot Springs Convention CenterPublished Wednesday, January 12, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Arkansas Cineposium 2000 will be held at the Hot Springs Convention Center January 22 and 23. The event is being provided free-of-charge by the Film and Video Promotion Team of the Arkansas Department of Economic Development, Arkansas' local film teams and the Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission to create interest in forming, expanding, and educating film teams across the state. Dov Simens, founder of the Hollywood Film Institute, will lead a workshop on the basics of the film industry, from production to distribution. An experienced film maker, instructor and contributing columnist to MovieMaker magazine, Simens has taught at 18 universities and conducts this seminar worldwide. "Film and video production plays a significant role in economic development in many states, not only in the communities where movies are made, but also as a result of the opportunities for aspiring film makers and numerous auxiliary occupations, such as those in state- of-the-art digital technology," said Barbara I. Pardue, director of the Arkansas Department of Economic Development. "One of the department's strategies to encourage film production in the state has been the creation of local film commissions in communities around Arkansas," she said. "The workshop will assist these communities and others interested in film production as one way to boost their local economy." Several communities have formed local film commissions, including Benton, Blytheville, Camden, El Dorado, Eureka Springs, Fort Smith, Hope, Hot Springs, Jonesboro, Little Rock, Magnolia, Maumelle, Northwest Arkansas, Ozark, Pine Bluff, Pocahontas, Ponca, Searcy, Siloam Springs and Springdale.
