Curley Wolves Drop Two 7AAA Games

Prescott's senior boys basketball team had a rough week last week.

The Wolves tangled with two of the top teams in the 7AAA conference in De Queen and Fordyce.

Game one was Tuesday, Jan. 4, on the road against De Queen, falling to the Leopards 76- 56.

The Wolves played well in the first period, which ended with the home Leopards leading 16-15.

Prescott stayed in the game during the second quarter, but saw the Leopards extend their lead to 33-27.

The Wolves gave it their all in the third quarter as well, but wound up on the short end of a 55-45 score.

In the final eight minutes, the Leopards began bombing from long range and were deadly from the line as they outscored the Wolves 21-11.

Brian Woodley led the Wolfpack's attack with 18 points. He was followed by Sid Giles, who had 13. Terry Woodley contributed 12 in the game.

Neil Reynolds was all but unstoppable for the Leopards as he scored a game high 26. Micah Martin scored 15 in the game, all from beyond the arc. Benny Ester also had 15.

From the line the Wolves were a woeful eight for 23. De Queen was 10 of 14 from the stripe.

PRESCOTT 51

FORDYCE 85

Fordyce used the time between when this game was originally scheduled, on Dec. 7, to now productively as the Redbugs exterminated the Wolves 85-51 Thursday night.

At the time, the Wolves had just been eliminated from the state football playoffs and had no time to practice on the basketball court.

This lead to the game being rescheduled to Thursday, Jan. 6.

The 'Bugs entered the game as a well-oiled machine, taking the less experienced Wolves apart.

By the end of the first eight minutes, the 'Bugs were leading 22-10, building this to a 47- 24 halftime advantage.

A the end of three Fordyce had added to its lead at 71-32.

The Wolves were again off at the line, hitting only six of 18, while Fordyce was dead-on netting 21 of 28.

Matt Brannon paced Prescott with 17 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Brian Woodley netted 10.

Brandon Jones led all scorers in the game with 20 for the 'Bugs. Kentral Rogers stroked the nylons for 18, while Kriston Belin added 17.

JV BOYS 39

DE QUEEN 54

Prescott's junior varsity team had its hands full with the JV Leopard team, falling 54- 39.

The Wolves played close in the first period, but trailed 17-12, and stayed in the hunt during the second frame, which ended with the Leopards up 29-22.

Prescott cut the lead to three in the third quarter at 36-33, but went cold from the field in the final stanza, while the Leopards heated up.

Brandon Young led Prescott with nine points.

Baide paced De Queen with 16. Verden had 12 and Hauson added 10.

Prescott was three of 11 from the line, while the Leopards were 11 of 19.

PRESCOTT JV 50

FORDYCE JV 39

The JV Wolves put the hurt on the JV Redbugs Thursday night, Jan. 6, with a 50-39 win.

Prescott opened the game with a 10-9 lead at the end of one, stretching this to a 25-17 advantage by intermission.

At the end of three, the Wolves lead was in double figures at 34-21.

Prescott shot better from the line in this outing, netting 10 of 15, while Fordyce was five of nine.

Kevin Fulks led the way in the win with 12, while Justin Tidwell added 10.

Wynn led Fordyce with 11.

Prescott's next home game will be Friday, Jan. 14, when the Wolves host the Scrappers of Nashville.
