Portion Of Rosston Council Hears Reports

Rosston's City Council meeting was short and sweet.

In fact, the meeting was almost over before it began as only two members showed for the regular monthly meeting, held Thursday, Jan. 6.

Fortunately, there was little on the agenda, and none required a vote.

Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson did let those who were there, Dorothy Hamilton and Randy Goodeau, know what had taken place in the last month.

At the December meeting, Jackson said a Rosston resident, Elizabeth Shelton, had approached the city about buying a parcel of land she owns.

The initial deal was the city could make the purchase, if it so chose, for the appraised value of the property.

The land was appraised at $1,500, with Shelton, Jackson said, saying this wouldn't be enough, and wanted at least $3,000 for it.

Hamilton and Goodeau agreed with Jackson the property wasn't worth the $1,500 it appraised for, let alone the $3,000 the owner was asking.

In addition, Jackson let them know there was a bank lien against the property for $2,000, so the city wouldn't have been able to get a clear title to it until the loan had been paid off.

The only other thing Jackson had for the council was to let them know the city is currently being audited, and the state auditor has the books.

The city's water department will be audited by the state at the end of January.

Otherwise, the only other topic discussed was the firetruck, which still hasn't been delivered. The council had little to say about this, other than the owner of the vehicle won't be paid until delivery has been made.
