Bones belonging to an unidentified person have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime lab in Little Rock.

Scott Clark, criminal investigator with the Arkansas State Police, said the skeletal remains of a man were found Friday off Interstate-30 near Exit 44.

He said the ASP has an idea who the remains was, but is holding off on identifying the body until the family has been notified and the true identity established.

A social security card was found at the site with the bones. If the body is who authorities believe, then it was a man who formerly lived in Terre Haute, Ind.

Clark said if this is indeed the social security card of the man, the family now lives in Arizona, and the Pima County Sheriff's Office will handle notifying them.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, he said, but as the corpse was skeletal, the body had been there for some time.

Additionally, some of the bones were missing, but Clark said this isn't unusual as animals could have carried them off.

The remains, he said, will be identified by dental records, as the lower jaw shows signs of dental work having been done at some time.

However, Clark said, if the remains aren't those of the name on the social security card, the ASP could have problems identifying them.
