If You Felt Cheated . . . If you felt cheated with Christmas Day and New Year's Day falling on a Saturday, don't feel like you are alone. It seems as if we almost expect a day off to celebrate the two holidays, and when they fall upon a Saturday (a day most working people have off) we lose that day off from work. Many people already feel cheated on Christmas day when they don't receive the gifts they ask for. Some have nobody to give gifts to or receive them from. Others feel cheated for other reasons. The Christmas and New Year's holiday season is the time of year when most deaths occur, natural or otherwise. Depression sets in with many people (especially the elderly) and they don't make it past the holidays.

Under The Tree . . . We celebrate Christmas gift giving four different occasions in my family. In years past, my wife and I traveled from my grandfather's house north of Warren to her parents house ont Christmas Eve and enjoyed Christmas Day in Taylor. This is the first time in 14 years of marriage we were home on Christmas Day. Even though we opened gifts the week before at our home, we felt we had to be home Christmas morning. It involved an 8-week-old German Shepard (RC named her KC) and we knew that we would not be able to spend two or three nights out-of-town as we had in the past. KC enjoyed our attention late Christmas Eve and early Christmas morning before we left for the day.

Gift Giving Is About? Gift giving in our household, as most, is about seeing the children open gifts and letting them enjoy the holiday season. As adults, we understand the old saying "It is better to give, than receive." Children on the other hand might learn the saying and see it applied in some way, but they definitely enjoy the gift receiving. I don't have a holiday gift wish list myself and my wife usually only asks for one or two things. I have already placed my order for next year though. It seems an appropriate gift for any normal adult male, though I might make a few changes in hopes of improving it. We'll see what Mrs. Claus can do.

Did You Know? Prescott and Nevada County collection figures on sales taxes have come in for October and November. Records show Prescott collected $69,601 in October and $67,216 in November from its municipal three-cent sales tax burden on residents. Nevada County collected $24,625 during the October and $24,197 in November with each incorporated town getting its pro-rated share. That adds up to over $94,000 in sales tax money collected for October and over $91,000 in November tax receipts throughout the county.
