Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991. Mom's In Touch prayer group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, June 24. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind checks. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213. Commodities will be issued on June 24 at the Senior Citizens Center in Prescott. Your card must be re-evaluated before commodities can be received. The Chamber of Commerce has free plastic litter bags for your car or truck. These bags are from Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Nevada County. You may pick them up at 116 East Second. If your child will have his or her third or fourth birthday before September 15 or will have a fifth birthday after September 15, then you could receive free teaching materials to prepare your child for school. Family members of Samuel and Alice Cooper will be having a Cooper reunion at Gurdon City Park Saturday, June 26. There will be good food, good fun and good fellowship. Harmony homecoming will be Sunday, June 20, at Harmony Methodist Church in Sutton, located on Highway 73. Devotional services will be at 11 a.m. Rev. Jerry Westmoreland will lead and direct the morning service. Velora Bright Haltom will direct the afternoon singing beginning at 1:30 p.m. Special groups participating will be Tillman and Virginia Franks of Shreveport, La., the Hempstead County Melody Boys, the Good Life Singers and Deanna Ward, along with other groups and a lot of congregational singing. Levi Parks family reunion will be held Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. in the community center at Fair Park in Hope. For more information call Sandra at 1-800-783-1754. Grandpa's Place, located between Patmos and Falcon on Highway 355 will have gospel music on June 19 at 7 p.m. Reconciled Group will perform. Also, appearing will be local talent, including Weldon Auld and Deanna Ward. Bring your lawn chair. Whites Chapel Baptist Church will be in revival June 21 through June 25. Services will be at 7:30 each night. There will be special music each evening. The evangelist will be Bro. Daniel Williams. Whites Chapel Church is located between Willisville and Bodcaw on County Road 7. Kevin and Kimberly Grimes are proud to announce the birth of their son, Hunter Timothy, born Monday, June 7, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Hunter weighed eight pounds and 14 ounces and was 22+ inches long. Grandparents are Ron and Jan Huett and Timmy and Ronda Grimes. Caney Cemetery membership meeting will be June 21 at 7 p.m. at the cemetery. The McLelland reunion will be held Thursday, June 19, in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church. All relatives and friends of the Mae McLelland McCain and Stivers families are cordially invited to the potluck luncheon. The get together will begin at 10:30. Guest church will be New Bethel of Rosston with Rev. L. Banks pastor. All churches are invited. Ruth (Paden) Ingram, daughters, and her daughter-in-law traveled by Greyhound to Milwaukee, Wis., June 6 to visit Emma (Paden) Thomas with a surprise party. They all had lots of fun and a nice trip. "Dr. Thomas and family really gave us a good time," Mrs. Ingram expressed. "All we did was eat, sleep and go. Everything was lovely. We returned back home June 12. |
