Recycling Begins With Separation

Published Wednesday, January 5, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Separating your plastic, glass and aluminum containers is only part of

the recycling cycle.

"Buying recycled closes the recycling loop. Taking your materials to the curb or to the recycling center is only the first step in recycling," said Suzanne Hirrel, a waste management specialist for the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas. "The recyclable items must be re-made or re-cycled into new items, and then we must purchase those items."
