Letter To The EditorPublished Wednesday, September 8, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneTaxes and AppraisalBefore you vote to raise your property taxes an average of $25 a year you should know that your property taxes will be reappraised next year and since Nevada County property taxes have not been reappraised and increased in 18 years, your property taxes will go up at least 1/3 or more, because the value of your home has increased in the past 18 years. Say the taxes on your home is $300 a year, 1/3 will increase them to $400 a year. If you vote for the school millage increase they will be $25 more or $425. Just the .5 of = of a mill, Gov. Jim Guy Tucker and the Senate and the House made us pass by using a poison pill increased my taxes on my home $8 a year. So you can guess what 32.1 mills will do in addition to the 18-year increase in reappraisal. Why can't the new superintendent and school board wait one year when they are flooded with all the money from the 18-year reappraisal? They can build everything new. When you get a new minister, he wants to build a new church or fellowship hall. When you get a new school superintendent he wants to build a new school or gym. Gary L.
