Living Well

Published Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

Whether we said it out loud, in our head or wrote it down, most of us made a new year's resolution, and probably it has already been broken! But don't worry, it's not too late to pick yourself back up and begin again.

This time be more specific with your resolution. Being specific helps make it reachable, such as walking one mile three times a week instead of saying you need to exercise more.

Take it one moment/day at a time. Don't tell yourself you have to stick to "the straight and narrow" forever; tell yourself you only have to stay with it this moment. Moments do add up! Think positive and congratulate yourself every step of the way.

And if you once more slip up on that resolution, just remember a little lapse doesn't mean the end; it just means a new beginning.

CHANGE YOUR WILL

It's a good time to consider changing your will when there are changes in your:

  • Family through birth, death, marriage or divorce.
  • Financial state either for the better or worse.
  • Assets you buy or sell property.
  • Residence legal requirements change from state to state.
  • Health or the health of your spouse or another beneficiary.
  • Beneficiaries' needs or in your feelings toward your beneficiaries.
