Show Is Jan. 14 Through Feb. 24Published Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Arkansas Artists Registry Gallery will present the exhibition 'Some Assembly Required' January 13 through February 24, according to James E. Mitchell, executive director of the Arkansas Arts Council. The Registry Gallery is located at 323 Center St. in Little Rock. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free. 'Some Assembly Required' is an exhibition of collage and assemblage. Collage work has assumed worldwide importance and now rivals painting as a major contemporary medium. With collage and assemblage, the range of possible effects available to the artist is wide. The work lends itself both to abstract and representational art. A variety of texture and color, op and pop, photo montage and combinations of these techniques are possible. Eighteen Arkansas artists will be featured in the exhibition. They are Pat Larsen of Conway; Suzi Dennis, Nancy Dunaway and Thad Flenniken of Hot Springs; Suzanne Waggoner of Mount Vernon; Cathy Burns of Pine Bluff; Judy Shantz Honey of Sherwood; and Kristie Bradley-Johnson, Susan Chambers, Jacqueline Kaucher, Ellan McKenzie, Arlette Miller and Barbara Oline of Little Rock. An opening reception will be held at the gallery on January 13 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The public is invited. The Arkansas Arts Council was established in 1971 to develop and implement a comprehensive statewide program for the support of the arts in Arkansas. The Arts Council carries out a program of services and grants-in-aid, supporting arts endeavors that encourage and assist artists in achieving standards of professional excellence. In addition, the Arts Council assists other relevant arts projects, including surveys, research and planning for the arts. The Arkansas Arts Council is an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, which was created in 1975 to preserve and enhance Arkansas' heritage. Other agencies of the department are the Arkansas Territorial Restoration, Natural Heritage Commission, Historic Preservation Program, Old Statehouse Museum and Delta Cultural Center.
