Oak GroveLula Q. KendrickPublished Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Christmas has come and gone. We are looking forward for a happy new year. George and I are both sick. However, we are both blessed to be alive and we have been blessed to have some good neighbors. Mrs. Gloria Young brought our dinner. It was very good. There was some of everything. Sympathy goes out to the Sanders family over the death of their loved one. Hershie Young is out of the hospital after having five bypasses. His brother, Elmer, said Sunday that he feels good. Let us continue to pray for the sick and shut-in. Our nieces came Sunday afternoon and brought dinner. Visiting were Merly Iaffers and her mother-in-law from Berkeley, Calif., and Bobby and Bonnie from Chicago, Ill. I missed going to church Christmas Day. Mrs. Vera Purifoy went to visit her sister, Mrs. Velma, and husband, Lupo in Dallas. Mrs. Johnnie Marsh went to visit her daughter, Jessie Scott, in Dallas. I missed her good cooking. There will be a watch night meeting at New Bethel AME Church New Year's night. Everyone is welcome. The Young Circuit first quarter will be held at New Salem AME Church the first Sunday in February. Rev. Thomas Adair will be presiding elder. Lessly Banks is the pastor. The Mayor of Rosston delivered a Christmas box to George and me last week. There was some of everything in it. It was very nice. Thanks to Rosston City and a special thanks to Mr. Jackson who delivered the box. Frannie Gulley Young died Monday morning. She is the sister of Zannie Gulley of Rosston. James Charles brought us the best pecans. They are nice. James is the nephew of Mrs. Gertie Blake. They gave her a new stove for Christmas. They really see after her. Happy New Year to everyone. RedlandHazel Meeks Christmas is over and now we can look forward to the new year. Most all of us in the Redland community remember Ralph Emerson. I don't think he would mind me telling you his is now 84 and is recently recovering from serious heart surgery. He lives in California. Mary and Pershing Cox had as Christmas guests Cathy and Beau Straley from Dallas, Ann and Dale Wylie from Hope and son Allen and family from Springfield, Mo., and Mike and Connie Cox and girls, Toni and Peggy, from Camden. Frances Swift from Rockport, Texas, spent Christmas holidays at her home here. She's really looking forward to making Arkansas her home when school is out. George and Joy enjoyed their kids for Christmas. Danny, Lisa, Kyle, Caley Pennington, Gary, Gaywyn, Gary and Gina Golden, Caley, Brad and Lindsey, Louise Willis, Susie and Rick Steelman were all home. A few of the late Glendene Haynie family members met at the home place on Sunday. those present were George and Jerri Haynie, Joyce Tyree, Earl and Kay Haynie and James of Magnolia. Billie Ridling had roughly 27 family members at her home for Christmas. Chris and Ginger Meeks from Dallas, Casey from Ol' Miss and Randy, Charity and Caleb Lowdermilk spent a nice visit with the Meeks family. Betty also spent the day. Bud, Sandy and Shanna Loe entertained their family with a Christmas morning breakfast. Those attending were Sandy's parents, Willie and Julen Hulan, her brother, Thomas, Linda, Ashley and Kim.
