Following City's Action: Budget AmendedBY RICKY RAGSDALEPublished Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Even though Nevada County's budget was approved during its regular meeting on Monday, December 19, JPs had to meet again to make changes following the Prescott City Council's actions the following Monday. During the December 20 meeting of the Prescott City Council, council members approved cutting the salary for the city-county criminal investigator, Wayne Kisselburg to half its past funding. They agreed to fund the position for half a year or $6,000 down from its $12,000 funding it received in past years. In a special meeting Tuesday, December 21, the Nevada County Quorum Court looked at ways to compensate for the loss of $6,000 from the city. JPs approved changing the funding for Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown's salary with a third coming from county general, a third from road and bridge and a third coming from solid waste. In the past, the county judge's salary was paid half from road and bridge and half from county general. This action freed about $4,400 from county general and was placed into the Sheriff's operating budget. JPs then voted to lower the salary of Kisselburg to $21,000, down from $24,500. They approved raising Chief Deputy Wally Hulan's salary to $22,000 from $19,900 as requested by Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell. Brown said he understands the city will not fund the criminal investigative position at all in 2001 and JPs will then look at taking other action.
